The closure would affect Minden Rd. in Memphis, TN from St. Andrews Fairway to North Graham Street. The proposal is to build a 3 foot tall wall to prevent any cars from going through this intersection. This closure would cut off east/west travel and access to Sam Cooper for High Point Terrace and Hedgemoor. No cars would be able to enter Minden Road from Graham to easily travel to High Point Grocery, which also affects Pidgeon Estates. Emergency Medical and Fire Services may potentially be impacted or delayed.
On August 4, 2023, a small group filed an application to close the street. You can read the application in full from the Memphis Land Use Control Boards website: View Full Application. Hedgemoor and the surrounding neighborhoods were not aware of the application until after the application was filed. As a required part of this process, the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning and Development has placed a public notice sign at the intersection to make others aware of the application. If you have been unable to read the entire sign while driving, you can view a photo of it here.
Several neighbors opposed to the closure are currently trying to make the broader community aware of the application. The application is currently not on the November agenda. The application has NOT been withdrawn. The Memphis Land Use Control Board meets monthly. Comments must be received prior to the Wednesday before the Land Use Control Board meeting. Until then, it is important for all to make their opinions heard before any decisions are made. Unless the application is withdrawn, the Land Use Control Board will make their recommendation to City Council.
